This policy explains what personal data Clothing Market (clothingmarket.co.uk), a trading name of Canterbury Plasterers Ltd, collects, why, and what your rights are. Canterbury Plasterers Ltd is the data controller. Contact: [email protected].

1. What we collect

• Account details: name, email address, password (stored as a hash), phone number if you add one, town and county, profile picture, and business details for business accounts.
• Sign in with Google or Facebook: your name, email address and profile picture from that service, and an identifier for your account there.
• Listings and messages: everything you write in a listing, a message, an offer, a bid, a review or a support request, and the photographs you upload.
• Orders: items bought and sold, prices, delivery addresses you save, and the delivery method agreed.
• Technical data: IP address, approximate country, browser and device type, pages visited, the site you signed up on and the domain you last signed in on, and security signals (for example whether a connection comes from a VPN or a known abusive network).
• Cookies: only essential cookies for sign in, security, your cart and your preferences. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

2. Why we use it and the legal basis

• To run your account, show your listings, deliver messages, manage carts, orders, bids and offers: performance of our contract with you.
• To keep the Site safe: spam and fraud detection, counterfeit checks, IP checks, rate limits and bans: our legitimate interest in protecting members and the Site.
• To send service emails and push notifications about your listings, messages, orders and account: performance of our contract. Marketing emails only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
• To comply with the law, including reporting duties to HMRC for marketplace sellers, and responding to lawful requests from the police, Trading Standards or courts: legal obligation.
• To improve the Site using aggregated statistics: legitimate interest.

3. Who sees your data

• Other members see your display name, town, profile picture, reviews and the content of your listings. Your email address, phone number and full address are only shared with the other party to a sale when needed to complete it, or when you choose to share them.
• Service providers who act on our instructions: hosting in the UK and EU, email delivery, Cloudflare for security and performance, Google and Meta for sign in, and push notification services. They may not use your data for their own purposes.
• Authorities where the law requires it, and rights holders where a listing is reported as counterfeit and we are legally required to identify the seller.
• We do not sell personal data and we do not share it with advertisers.

4. Shared network

• Clothing Market and marketcity.co.uk run on the same platform and database. Your account, listings and messages are the same on both. This policy applies on both sites for fashion content, and marketcity.co.uk has its own policy for everything else.

5. International transfers

• Your data is stored in the United Kingdom and the European Union. Where a provider processes data outside the UK (for example Google or Meta sign in), the transfer relies on the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or an adequacy decision.

6. How long we keep it

• Account data: while your account is open and for up to 12 months after it closes, unless a dispute or legal duty requires longer.
• Listings: while live and for up to 12 months after they end, so that orders, disputes and reviews can be resolved.
• Messages and orders: 24 months after the last activity, or longer where a legal duty applies (tax records are kept for 6 years).
• Security logs and IP data: up to 12 months.
• You can download all your data from your account page at any time, and you can delete your account and data from the same page.

7. Your rights

• You have the right to access your data, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent where consent was the basis.
• Use the Download my data and Delete all my data tools on your account page, or email [email protected]. We respond within one month.
• You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) if you are not satisfied with how we handle your data.

8. Children

• The Site is for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18, and we remove such accounts when we become aware of them.

9. Security

• Passwords are hashed, connections are encrypted, access to systems is limited to staff who need it, and we monitor for abuse. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.

10. Automated decisions

• We use automated checks to block sign ups from known abusive networks, to hold sign ups from outside the UK for review, and to flag suspicious listings and messages. A person reviews any decision that would close an account, and you can ask us to review an automated decision by emailing [email protected].

11. Changes

• We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the current version and material changes are announced on the Site.
